CONGRATULATIONS from the California Grassroots Alliance to Derek Tran, CA-45, and Adam Gray, CA-13, who now join George Whitesides, CA-27, and Dave Min, CA-47 as newly elected Congressmembers!
And THANK YOU to the many Alliance volunteers and supporters whose unrelenting grassroots effort helped flip these three seats and hold Katie Porter’s district.
You did it. By helping deliver four critical House races, you and your fellow grassroots activists from all over California bucked the trend of this heartbreaking national election. Capturing four of the “Sweep Six” districts is a huge achievement that helped net a two-seat gain for House Democrats overall. Though sadly we fell short of the majority, our work helped restrict MAGA to the tiniest House margin in a century: 220 Republicans to 215 Democrats means they have only five seats to work with, and an even tinier two-seat margin until three vacancies are filled next spring.
Let’s be clear: in each of these races, the enormous effort from grassroots volunteers both in and outside of the six districts made the difference. Every canvasser, every phone banker, every intrepid ballot-curing porch visitor contributed to these wins–especially in CA-13 and CA-45, with margins in the hundreds secured by painstaking ballot curing.
While California isn’t a swing state, Alliance volunteers from all across the Golden State realized in 2023 that we do have critical swing districts and it was up to us to win them. We sought to combine a year-long clear focus on the Sweep Six, access to the candidates well before the primary, targeted donations, and access to the volunteer options offered by our many partner groups. The result: Each contest was fiercely fought, and four delivered crucial victories.
Thank you for all you have done. It was our hard work, together, that made the difference.
